James Eugene Marsh (Jim) was born July 16, 1931, in Des Moines, Iowa to Carrie (Blohm) and Lawrence Marsh. Jim grew up in Dexter Iowa and graduated from Dexter High School class of 1949 where he proudly played football and baseball for the Dexter Owls - sporting the green and gold.
Jim answered the call to serve his country in February of 1952 when he enlisted in the United States Army. Jim returned from bootcamp to marry the love of his life, Betty Jean Kunkle, on June 30, 1952. Shortly after their union, Jim was deployed to Pusan Korea where he served as a Radar Specialist at the artillery installation.
Jim enjoyed a full life during which he and Betty became the proud parents of son, Michael. Jim farmed, worked for Straight Engineering in Adel, Frye Manufacturing in Des Moines and finally Meredith Printing where he was a talented Machinist. Jim enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing (LOTS of fishing) trap shooting, harvest helper for friend Jack Ellis, handcrafting fishing lures and making just about anything he could machine. His granddaughters’ favorite being the super-charged two-liter bottle launcher.
Jim is proceeded in death by his wife Betty; parents Carrie and Lawrence Marsh; stepmother Doris (Kalbach) Marsh; brother John Marsh; sister Lila McMenamin and mother and father-in-law Vivian and Loyd (pappy) Kunkle.
Jim leaves behind to cherish his memory son Michael (Penny) Marsh of Stuart; grandchildren Aubrey (Taylor) Marsh-Yori of Evansdale and Alexa (Christopher) Marsh of St. Paul, MN; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that he cherished deeply.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 1st, 2024, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter where full military honor will be rendered. He will be laid to rest along with his beloved wife, Betty which he kept close by his side since her passing on November 17, 2020.
