Jim, as he was known to family and friends, was born on November 23, 1938 to Stephen and Angelia (James) Glenn in Stuart, Iowa. As a young man, he attended schools in Stuart, Des Moines and Wyoming before graduating from Stuart High School with the class of 1955. Following graduation, Jim attended Iowa State University before his enlistment in the US Navy. While in the Navy, he worked in Naval intelligence, monitoring radio transmissions. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1961.
Jim was united in marriage to Kathleen Stole on July 19, 1969 in Des Moines. To this union two children were born: Jennifer and Michael. The family made their home in Des Moines. Jim worked a number of years for Burroughs Corporation, later becoming Unisys. He also worked for the State of Iowa as a Sergeant at Arms during legislative sessions at the Iowa Capitol Building.
Jim was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Des Moines and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a proud member of the Bellizzi Macrae American Legion Post 659 in Des Moines. Jim loved history, cars and old monster movies. He was a skilled target shooter and enjoyed collecting guns. Most of all, he treasured time he was able to spend with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Theresa Markie; sister, Mary Jo Ellis; brothers, Patrick Glenn and Michael Glenn.
Jim leaves behind his loving wife, Kathy of Norwalk; children: Jennifer (Lauren) Glenn of Des Moines and Michael (Karen) Glenn of San Francisco; siblings: Grace Draman of North Carolina, Mark Glenn of North Carolina and Teri Cebuhar of Lincoln, NE; beloved dog, Quinn; beloved cat, Hope; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
The family wishes to give a special thank you to Teresa Ayers, Gwen (Jim) Folkerts, David Stole, and Barb and Larry James.
