Obituary for James Jackson
James C. Jackson, 87, of Redfield passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Monday, August 18th at the Redfield Methodist Church. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, August 19th at the Redfield Methodist Church. Burial will be at Wiscotta Cemetery near Redfield. Memorial contributions may be directed to the James Jackson Memorial Fund, in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. James was born May 17, 1927 in Bouton, Iowa to William DeVore and LaMima Sarah Gray Jackson. He was raised in the Minburn-Perry area and graduated from Minburn High School with the class of 1945. Shortly after graduating, James enlisted into the United States Army. During this time, he played saxophone in the Army band as well as the Orchestra at Lake Robins before being honorably discharged. James was united in marriage to Charlotte Baker on June 20, 1948 in Redfield, Iowa and to this union two children were born, Melinda and John. James was employed at JM Cleminshaw Company as a Real Estate Appraiser until 1950, when he and Charlotte moved to a farm in Bagley and operated a dairy farm. In 1955, James went back to work at JM Cleminshaw and traveled extensively with the company until settling in Davenport in 1982. In 1982, he was employed by the City of Davenport and served as their Senior Appraiser until his retirement. In 2002, James and Charlotte made their home in Redfield. James was a member of the Redfield American Legion and the Redfield United Methodist Church where he served as the treasurer and was the chairman of their building committee. He enjoyed lawn and gardening, woodworking, collecting Snoopy memorabilia, playing cards and cribbage, reading, scouting and spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and LaMima Jackson, sister, Jean Chaloupka and brother, Bill Jackson.
James leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Charlotte Jackson of Redfield; daughter, Melinda and husband Rev. Dr. Keith Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska; son, John and wife Catherine Jackson of Winterset, Iowa; grandchildren, Jay Jackson, Bethany Johnson and husband Chris Wacker, Sergio Johnson, Justin Jackson, Elizabeth and husband Jeff O’Conner; great granddaughter, Izabella O’Conner; brother, Bob and wife Rhea Jackson of Mesa, AZ and a host of nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
