Obituary for James "Jake" Edward Schwartzkopf
James “Jake” Edward Schwartzkopf, 62, of Stuart passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2015 at his home in Stuart. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday, August 27th at the Stuart-Mt Vernon United Methodist Church in Stuart. Funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday, August 28th at the Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Stuart. Burial will be at South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart. Memorial contributions may be directed to the James Schwartzkopf Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Jake, as he was known by his family and friends was born in Dexter to Jacob and Elizabeth “Betty” Wright Schwartzkopf. He was a lifelong resident of Stuart and graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1971. Shortly after graduating, he enrolled in school at the Des Moines Area Community College and received his associate’s degree in auto mechanics. Jake was united in marriage to Karen Weirich on April 12, 1980 at the St.-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Stuart. His employment included Morrison’s Chevrolet in Stuart, 15 years for Farm Bureau, 20 years at Dewey Ford, and the last four years was spent with Nationwide Insurance. Also during this time, Jake and Karen enjoyed operating Jake’s Snack Shack for 20 years. Memberships included the DMOA (Des Moines Officials Association) – football referee, Iowa Fireman Association, Mustang Club, Stuart Service Club, a past member of the Guthrie County Sheriff Reserves, lifelong member of the Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and a 40 year member of the Stuart Fire and Rescue. Jake enjoyed following the Green Bay Packers, maintaining his home, attending morning coffee with “the boys”, cooking, grilling, and spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Betty Schwartzkopf.
Jake leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Karen, of Stuart; children, Katie (Kevin) Thompson and their children Jace and Abigail, of Highland, Kansas and David (Laura) Schwartzkopf of Phoenix, Arizona; Siblings, John (Tom Sidebottom) Schwartzkopf of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jay (Janece) Schwartzkopf of Stuart, Iowa, Jeff (Sara Blevins) Schwartzkopf of Stuart, Iowa and Jane (Roger) Heatwole of Marshalltown, Iowa and a host of other relatives all of whom will miss him greatly.
