He grew up in Redfield and graduated from Dexfield High School with the class of 1980. While in school, Sam enjoyed all sports especially wrestling, track, and football. Following high school, he enrolled at Hawkeye Tech College where he received his associates degree. Sam lived most of his life in Redfield before moving to Dexter in 2015. Throughout his life, Sam worked a variety of jobs around Dallas and Polk county. He was a life long member of the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Sam enjoyed many things in life, but none of them were more important than his three daughters, family, and friends. He loved watching his beloved Vikings, Iowa, and Iowa State, gardening, and was an avid reader.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Rhoten and Karen Jo (Baker) Rhoten.
