Janet Alene (Kading) Meyer and her twin, James, were born on December 18, 1932, on the family farm near Casey, Iowa. Her life was a testament to her loving nature, creative spirit, and strong dedication to her family and numerous pursuits.
Janet grew up in rural Iowa, where she attended a one-room schoolhouse until the age of 11. Following that she attended Casey School, carrying with her the values of hard work and community that would define her life. On November 10, 1950, Janet married Frank Orval Meyer in Adel, Iowa. Together, they raised five daughters: Becky, Gwen, Sarah, Jodi, and Lee.
Janet raised her children with much love. With husband Frank, she co-owned the Coast to Coast store in Stuart from 1966 to 1995. Her ability to display merchandise, keep the books, and her commitment to customer service made her a key part of the operation.
Janet was a nature enthusiast. She was a member of the Stuart Garden Club and enjoyed watching birds. Flowers, birds and nature were often the subjects of her china painting, an art she taught as a member of the International Porcelain Artists & Teachers and The World Organization of China Painters.
Janet's commitment to her community was obvious in her work at the Stuart Library. She shared her love of reading by delivering books to the Community Care Center, writing book reviews, and serving on the Library Board. She was a faithful supporter of the Stuart - Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Her service extended to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Firebelles.
Those who knew Janet will remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories with her daughters: Gwen Meyer of Schaumburg, Illinois, Sarah (Stan) Francis of Greenville, Texas, Jodi (Reuben) Mork of St. Olaf, Iowa, and Lee (Connor) Hood of Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren: Robert Asbery, Richard (Sondra) Asbery, and Ruth Asbery; and her great-grandchildren: Lucas Asbery, Makenzie Asbery, Remington Asbery, and Jaxon Wallace. Her son-in-law, Roger Asbery of Moore, Oklahoma, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, will also hold her memory dear.
Preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Amanda (Kelley) Kading, her husband, Frank Meyer and her oldest daughter Rebecca Asbery. Sisters preceding her in death were Frances (Lloyd) Brouhard, Grace (Floyd) Folcka, Irene (Myron) Cady, Blanche Kading, Edna (T. Dayle) Cline, and Vera (Howard) Sorenson. Brothers preceding her in death were Albert (Naomi) Kading, Raymond (Nina) Kading, Paul (Margret) Kerns, Robert Kading, and James (Nancy) Kading.
Janet Alene (Kading) Meyer's life was a canvas painted with teaching, creativity, friends, and family. She will be greatly missed. Her teachings will continue to color the lives of those who knew her.
