Jessie Irene Messamer was born on October 6, 1919, in Dallas County, Iowa. She was the sixth child in a family of ten children born to T.R. and Beulah Messamer. Jessie was raised in rural Dallas County and graduated from Washington Township High School. She attended McPherson College in Kansas for two years and then taught at a county school in Dallas County for two years prior to her marriage.
On June 8, 1941, Jessie married Milford Blomquist and moved to a farm south of Stuart where she resided for the remainder of her life. She spent her time working hard gardening, canning and freezing her produce, and doing all the multiple tasks a farm wife and mom needed to do to care for her family. Jessie and Milford became the parents of four children: Dale, Leanna, Francis, and Lloyd. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and always encouraged and supported her kids and grandkids.
Jessie was a member of Bethel Baptist Church at Stanzel and participated in many activities there with her family. She loved and served the Lord, and her deep faith in God guided how she lived her life. In her spare time, Jessie loved to read, sew, quilt, and do crossword puzzles. She was an avid Iowa and Iowa State basketball fan all her life, in part thanks to her time playing six-on-six basketball in high school.
Jessie leaves the following family to celebrate her life and deeds: sons Francis and Lloyd of Stuart, daughter Leanna of Mahomet, Il, daughter-in-law Darlene of Greenfield, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a brother Charles Messamer in Indiana, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, eight of her siblings, her husband Milford, and her son Dale.
