Obituary for Joan Henderson
Joan Henderson, 78, of Stuart, Iowa passed away November 3, 2020 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, November 8, 2020 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart Chapel. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 9th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart Chapel. Burial will follow the services in South Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Joan Henderson Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Joan was born April 24, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa. She was adopted at an early age to H.A. and Marie (Beck) Parrot. She grew up in Guthrie Center and graduated from Guthrie Center High School with the class of 1960. Joan was united in marriage to Keith Duane Henderson on September 11, 1960 in Anita, Iowa at the Church of Christ. They became the proud parents of three boys, Jeff, David and Jim. Following their marriage, they lived in Omaha, Atlantic and Guthrie Center before making their home in Stuart in 1962. She ran a local daycare in Stuart for many years before cleaning homes and working at the Stuart Herald. Joan was a member of the First Congregational Church where she taught bible school for years, the Congregational Women’s Fellowship, the Guthrie County Hospital Auxiliary, was a former Cub Scout Leader, was a member of the Stuart American Legion Auxiliary where she helped with bingo and the annual fish fry. Joan enjoyed garage sales, baking, volunteering, and never met a bingo games she did not like. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband in 2002 and a great grandson Callum Henderson in 2018. Joan leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Jeff Henderson of Stuart, Iowa, David Henderson of Arthur, Iowa and Jim (Veronica) Henderson of Stuart, Iowa; grandchildren, Andrew (Skylar) Henderson of Solon, Iowa and Kayla Henderson of Arthur, Iowa; sister Peggy Shroyer of Panora, Iowa and a host of nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
