Joseph Edward Marks, 86, of Redfield passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Tuesday, March 29th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, March 30th at the Redfield Christian Church. Burial will be at the Wiscotta Cemetery. Joseph was born on July 4, 1935 to Reese and Ida (Draman) Marks in Stuart, Iowa. He grew up in Stuart and attended Stuart Schools graduating with the class of 1953. Following his graduation, he worked with his father in the nursery industry. In 1961, he bought a farm outside of Redfield and converted it to a tree nursery. He was the proud operator of Marks Nursery for over 70 years.
Joseph was an Elder at the Redfield Christian Church and a longtime member of the Iowa Nursery and Landscape Association. In his spare time he enjoyed: gardening, fishing, reading, hunting and trapping. He was an avid Creighton women’s basketball fan and attended many games. Most of all he treasured time he was able to spend with his family, especially following his grandchildren’s activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Dahl.
He leaves behind his children: Susan (Doug) Jones of Redfield, Dan (Wendy) Marks of Naples, Florida, and Dave (Jenny) Marks of Marion; grandchildren: Caitlin (Ian) Zimmerman and their daughter, Chloe, Nate (Abby) Jones and their children, Quinn and Marshall, Austin (Leah) Marks, Sydney Marks, Sage Marks, Fisher Marks, and Emma Marks; brother, Marion (Barb) Marks of Dexter; his dear friend Judy Flanery and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
