Joyce was born on December 16, 1929 to Mayne and Crystal (Smith) DeVinney in Huron, South Dakota. She was united in marriage to Bob McAtee on December 26, 1949 in Huron, South Dakota. They became the proud parents to seven children. After their marriage, they lived in Huron and Mitchell, South Dakota; then moved to DeSoto before making their home in Stuart in 1973. Together they owned and operated The New Edgetowner Motel in Stuart before retiring.
In Joyce’s early years she loved to bowl, raise animals from dogs to Zebra Finches, and reading; especially James Patterson. Later on in life when she was no longer able to bowl she continued with her love of reading and walking her dog, Tinker. Throughout her years in Stuart, Joyce was an avid supporter of the Stuart Public Library.
Joyce leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children: Susan (Bill) Mauermann, Vickie (Bill) Parton, Todd (Denise) McAtee, Cathy (Shane) Tiernan, Jeff (Janet) McAtee, Andy (Sheryl) McAtee, and Jill (Steve) Lafrentz; brother, Wallace; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three nephews.
Joyce will be remembered by those that knew her for her wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. Mom will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
