Obituary for Joyce Ann Welker
Joyce Ann (Moore) Akers Welker, 77 of Stuart passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 27th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home – Stuart Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Joyce Welker Memorial Fund and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, Stuart. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.  Joyce was born April 5, 1940 to Chester and Elizabeth (Bancroft) Moore near Menlo, Iowa. She grew up near Menlo and Panora before graduating from Menlo High School with the class of 1958. She attended SWICC in Creston majoring in Business. She was united in marriage to Myron Akers. To this union she was blessed with six children: Jolena, Jennifer, Matt, Melissa, Monte and Melody. She lived most her life in the Menlo area and she enjoyed living on the farm. She worked as a CNA and Medical Aid at the Panora and Stuart Care Centers. Following Myron’s death she was married to Clifford Welker.  In her spare time she loved to crochet, knit and sew. Joyce cherished the times she was able to spend with her grandchildren playing video games or reading to them. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, using her computer and traveling. Her greatest love came from her belief in God and she worshiped him by reading scripture, singing hymns and southern gospel, playing piano and praying.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Myron Akers and Clifford Welker; brother, Charles Moore; and daughter-in-law, Linda Akers.  Joyce leaves behind her children: Jolena (Sam) Welker of Van Meter, Jennifer (Rick) Clark of Weslaco, TX, Matt (Vivian) Akers of Madison, WI, Melissa (Glen) Pohl of Perry, Monte (Marjie) Akers of Johnston and Melody (Ryan) Wasson of Linden; step-sons: Vernon (Sherry) Welker of Stuart, Mike (Loura) Welker of Dallas Center and Jon Welker of Menlo; grandchildren: Julia and Joyce Welker, Eli Hoyt (Brandi), Nick (Krista) Akers, Ashley Akers (Jeff), Amanda (Raymond) Johnston, Jesse (Katie) Akers, Katie Pohl, Jordan Pohl, Skylar Wasson, Tanner Wasson, Lucas Wasson, Jared Wasson, Alexis Wasson; step-granddaughters, Victoria Welker and Grace Welker; great-grandchildren: Ember and Pierce Akers, Madison Johnston, Addilynn Pohl and Nora Akers; siblings: Charlotte (Bill) Holle of Guthrie Center, Lucille (Harvey) Berry of Des Moines, Pauline (Lee) Drews of Illinois, Amy Moore of Sutherland and Raymond (Sue) Moore of Kansas City; sisters-in-law: Kathy Moore of Georgia, Marilyn (Bob) Anderson of Exira, Marla (Rex) Swanson of Windsor, CO; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
