Judy was born on August 9, 1940, in Iowa to James Dale Lomax and Louise Berniece (Slauson) Lomax. She grew up in Stuart, Iowa and graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1958. She was united in marriage to Robert Thompson on June 12, 1960. To this union three daughters were born, Cynthia, Valerie, and Kristen.
Judy received her teaching degree and worked as an elementary school teacher throughout her career. In 1965, she and Bob moved to Des Moines, IA to raise their family. In 1968, she would continue her education and receive her Master’s Degree from Drake University. Judy resumed teaching full-time at Moore Elementary School where she would teach for the next 25 years and ultimately retire in 2001. She loved teaching and her passion was Science. She went to multiple science conventions on behalf of the Des Moines School District and provided input into the science curriculum. She was a teacher throughout her life and loved learning and fostering that desire in others.
Judy was a member of the Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also active as a Girl Scout Leader.
Judy was an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives and bestowed her love for science upon them during her many years of babysitting. They enjoyed doing experiments, learning origami, experiencing nature, and reading together as well as taking day trips to the Butterfly Garden in Ames, Saylorville Lake and Cottonwood to explore, and the library.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Louise Lomax, beloved daughter, Valerie, and sister, Caroline.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband, Robert, her children, Cynthia Kay Bloom, Kristen Lee (Ted) Redenius, and grandchildren Adam and Alex Bloom, Ally and Evan Redenius, and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
