Judy Combs, 78, of Waukee passed away Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Kavanaugh House in Des Moines. Graveside memorial service will be held at 2 P.M. on Friday, June 7th at the Dexter City Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Judy was born on November 6, 1945 to Norman and Alice (Van Zandt) Cox in Des Moines, Iowa. She grew up in Des Moines and attended East High School graduating with the class of 1964. She married Robert Gustaveson and to this union two children were born: Carrie and Roger. They later divorced. She later found the love of her life and united in marriage to John Combs. The family made their home in Dexter. The couple also spent many years at Lake Panorama where she enjoyed boating with family and friends.
Judy spent many years as a homemaker, worked as a bookkeeper and later managed Casey’s in Guthrie Center and Dexter. In her spare time she enjoyed bowling, crocheting, cross-stitching, puzzles, playing cards and bingo. She also treasured time she was able to spend with family and friends.
She was preceded in passing by her mother and step-father, Alice (John) Roche; father and step-mother, Norman (Marlene) Cox; husband, John Combs; grandson, Kurtis Gustaveson; and sister, Pam Neqrette.
She leaves behind her daughter, Carrie (Kent Johnson) Gustaveson of Waukee; son, Roger Gustaveson of Dexter; grandchildren: Justin, Tyler, Courtney and Ali; great-grandchildren: Kennedy, Holden and one more due in September; siblings: Larry (Diane) Cox of Milford, Denny (Jessica) Cox of Omaha; Jeanie (Tom) Shattuck of Dallas Center, Norma (Pat) McGriff of Sun City, AZ, Steve (Dawn) Cox of Des Moines; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
