Obituary for Karen Lee Holmes
Karen Lee Holmes of Stuart (formerly of the Mason City and Rockwell IA area) passed away peacefully at her home on April 24th, 2017 at the age of 79. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday April 28th, 2017 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home and Crematory-Stuart Chapel in Stuart IA.
Memorial contributions may be made in Karen’s name to the Stuart Congregate Meals and may be in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart IA 50250.

Karen was born February 12th, 1938 to Roy and Ethel (Taylor) Woolridge in Mason City Iowa. She was raised in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School with the Class of 1956. Karen enrolled in the Mercy College of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She was employed as an RN for several years in Mason City for the Methodist Hospital and then at North Iowa Community Hospital. She was a longtime member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Rockwell. Karen was united in marriage to Robert Louis Holmes on November 20th, 1959 in Mason City and together became the proud parents of five children (Randy, Rick, Rhonda, Roxanne and Roberta). They lived on a farm outside of Mason City until making their home in Rockwell.
Karen was a nanny on the East Coast in the late 1980’s and than in the mid 1990’s she moved to the West Coast where she lived until 2006 at which time she moved to Stuart. Karen enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading her daily devotions and spiritual books, gardening and spending time with her family and her second family at the Stuart Congregate Meal Site.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Ethel Woolridge and her grandparents.
Karen leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children: Randy (Julie) Holmes of Apple Valley MN, Rick (Kim) Holmes of Cresco IA, Rhonda (Bob Clark) Holmes of Winston MO, Roxanne (Harold) Yawn of Fort Dodge IA, and Roberta Holmes of Minneapolis MN. Grandchildren: Matt, Heather and Shannon Holmes, Stacy Hearne, Shaun Ferrie and Seth Ferrie, Seth and Mikey Dean and Derek Holmes. Great Grandchildren: Brecken, Tyler, Emi and Addisyn. Karen has a host of friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
