Kathryn Wagner Fitzgerald, 75, of Stuart passed away peacefully in her home on August 31, 2020. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart where a rosary will be recited at 10:30 A.M.. A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday following the Rosary. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kathryn Fitzgerald Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Johnson Family Funeral Home will be live streaming the funeral starting at 11:00 A.M. Due to Covid19 the family has elected not to have a luncheon following the services.
Kathryn was born in Stuart, IA on November 15th, 1944, to Marvin and Alene Pieper. She grew up on the family farm. After graduating from Stuart High School in 1962, she went on to earn a degree from Northwest Institute of Medical Technology Lab and XRay as a technician. Kathryn married William F. Wagner of Stuart, IA, on June 20, 1964. The Wagners owned a farm north of Stuart where they raised their five children, Steven, Matthew, John, Anne and Ellen. With the farmhouse full of kids there was always something to do and Kathryn was a lifelong learner always gaining new skills and knowledge. Her husband Bill passed away on June 13, 1984. Later, Kathryn met and married Eugene Fitzgerald of Des Moines, on August 6, 1988. She welcomed five step children and was blessed with their own addition, their daughter Mary.
Kathryn’s faith guided her in life. She was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. She taught catechism and prepared many children of the church to receive their First Communion. She was a member of the choir, bible study, Altar and Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters. Her hobbies and passions included quilting, basket making, canning produce from her garden, playing piano, reading, scrabble, and a variety of other card games. She passed away at home surrounded by her family August 31, 2020.
Kathryn is survived by her children: Steven (Nikki) Wagner of Urbandale, Ia., Matthew Wagner (friend Joan) of Menlo, Ia., John (Shari) Wagner of Des Moines, Ia., Anne (Tom) Wahl of Marshalltown, Ia., Ellen (Jake) Kerber of Ankeny, Ia., and Mary Kathryn Fitzgerald (friend Daniel) of West Des Moines, Ia.; Step-children: Tom Fitzgerald, Ron Fitzgerald of Newton, Ia., Kelly (Dave) Currant of Bondurant, Ia., Kathleen (David) Brown of Kellogg, Ia., Donnie (Shelly) Fitzgerald of Newton, Ia.; Brothers: Paul (Sharon) Pieper of Stuart, Ia., Leo (Jeri) Pieper of Stuart, Ia., Marty (Sandy) Pieper of Adel, Ia., David (Diana) Pieper of West Des Moines, Ia.; Sisters: Annette (Embree) Edgington of Waukee Ia., Lori (Jerry) Southmayd of Pella, Ia.; Grandchildren: Sydney (Corey) Barnes, Emily Wagner, Christine Wagner, Jacqueline Wahl, David Wahl, Rebecca Wagner, William Wagner, Samuel Wagner, Mark Wagner, Aaron Wagner, Lillian Kerber, Maximilian Keber, August Kerber. Many step-grand and great grandchildren.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; Marvin and Alene Pieper, husbands; William Wagner and Eugene Fitzgerald, and granddaughter Lindsay Fitzgerald.
