Kenneth was born on September 12, 1938 to Fred and Hattie (McClellan) Caulkins in Guthrie County, Iowa. He grew up in Stuart and attended Stuart High School graduating with the class of 1956. He then enlisted in the United States Navy where he served at the rank of Airman until his honorable discharge in 1959. On January 27, 1957 he was united to Kay Morrison at the Stuart Methodist Church. To this union three children were born: Steve, Brian and Connie. The family made their home in Stuart until Kenneth and Kay moved to Dexter in 1990.
Kenneth spent 15 years in law enforcement working at the Chief of Police in Stuart, Deputy Sheriff in Guthrie and Dallas Counties. He had his own lock-smithing business and worked for Des Moines Lock retiring there in 2003. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering on anything he could get his hands on. He loved trips to Colorado and country western books and music. He had an affection for animals, especially horses. There are many people Kenneth would help and some he would knock on the head.
