Kenny, as he was better known to family and friends, was born April 26, 1934 to Christopher and Esther (Knauer) Ludwig on the family farm in Adair County. He attended Walnut #2 School and later Casey Public School graduating with the class of 1952. He worked a variety of jobs out of high school working in sheet metal with the uncle of his future wife and Northwestern Bell. He later enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Arkansas, Colorado and Korea. After returning home he began farming and worked side jobs at Faga Implement, Challenge Feed, and selling ACCO/Paymaster Seeds.
On February 22, 1955 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Heam at Visitation Catholic Church in Des Moines. To this union four children were born: Kenneth Jr., Carol, Marcia and Linda. The couple purchased their farm in 1959. Kenny and Marilyn would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year and after 70 years, they would still be dancing to the Beer Barel Polka. He was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Casey, which is now the Casey Visitor’s Center.
Kenny was a very hard worker that never met a stranger. He was known for his reputation and keen sense of humor, notorious for his one-liners.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Jr.; daughter, Carol; sister, Marjorie (George Sr.) Root, sister Elaine (Harold) Shearer, brother, Donald Ludwig, brother, Thomas Ludwig (in infancy), father-in-law, Edward (Fern) Hearn, mother-in-law, Marguerite Hearn, brother-in-law, Richard (Bernice) Hearn, and sister-in-law, Barbara (Dan) Boatwright.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Marcia Morales and Linda (Brian) Smith; grandchildren: Lindsay (Allan) Miller, Brad (Krystal) Lengel and Jennifer Morales; great-grandchildren, Blake and Kasen; daughter-in-law, Cindy (Mick) Baudler; son-in-law, Tom Lengel; brother, Larry Ludwig; sister-in-law, Betty Ludwig; sister-in-law, Maxine Ludwig; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
