LeRoy Alexander, 94 of Stuart passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center. Open viewing time will be held from 10-11 A.M. on Friday, October 29th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Masks will be required at the funeral home. Graveside funeral service will be at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, October 29th at the Rosehill Cemetery in Menlo. For those that would like to join the service it will be livestreamed at Facebook.com/JohnsonFamilyFH. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Leroy Alexander Memorial Fund. LeRoy was born on October 5, 1927 to George and Ruth (Stonehocker) Alexander in Linn Township, Dallas County, Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Linden and attended Linden High School, graduating with the class of 1945. LeRoy served as a MP in the United States Army at the end of World War II. On November 6, 1949 he was united to Alberta “Birdie” Coomes in Des Moines. To this union four children were born: Mary, Peggy, Sally and David. The family lived in several places before making their home in Stuart. LeRoy spent most of his career in agriculture industries including running the Creamery and Feed Store in Stuart. In his spare time, he enjoyed shooting pool, fishing, bow hunting, playing cards and he was a very skilled gardener.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Birdie; siblings, Juanita Lewis and Harold Alexander; and nephew, Jerry Lewis.
LeRoy leaves behind his children: Mary (John) Agan of Las Vegas, Peggy (Mark) Goins of Ankeny, Sally (Rick) Guisinger of Menlo and David (Yuriko Togashi) Alexander of Vermillion, SD; grandchildren: Jennifer, Alicia, Laura, Andrew, Anne, Matthew, Erica, Bets; great-grandchildren: Joshua, Tyler, Daniel, Evan, Dillion, Wesley, Katie, Brian, CJ, Brooks, Kaylee, Jordan and Keith; great-great-grandchildren, Briella, Waylon and Elias; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
