Obituary for Lela Lou York
Lela Lou York was born on November 10, 1923 in Earlham, Iowa to Oscar Johnston and Mabel Beaver Johnston. She attended school in Earlham, graduating in 1941. She then attended Chillicothe Business College for two years. She worked for several years in Chicago and Des Moines. In the early 1960’s Lela moved to Southern California to work in the aerospace industry, retiring in 1990 from Boeing. She moved to San Diego, California, where she lived until her passing on October 4, 2016. Lela loved to travel, and made many trips including an around the world trip. She also loved to go to Hawaii, Japan, China and Australia. Her part time job as a travel agent gave her and her companions many lovely trips. She also enjoyed attending church and became a serious Bible scholar after her trip to Israel and Egypt.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents; her half-sister Atholl Capfield Harris and brother, Kenneth Johnston.

She is survived by her many loving friends in California, Iowa and all over the United States.

A memorial service was held at Lifebridge Church, San Diego, California. Burial will be held at the Earlham Cemetery on Friday, September 22, 2017.
