Obituary for Leona Christina (Hull) Lyddon
Leona Christina (Hull) Lyddon, 96, of Casey passed away on Monday, January 3rd at the Greenfield Nursing and Rehab in Greenfield. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Monday, January 10th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Visitation will continue from 10-11 A.M. with a funeral service to begin at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, January 11th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. The funeral service will be live streamed on the Johnson Family Facebook Page (www.Facebook.com/JohnsonFamilyFH). Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Menlo. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Leona Lyddon Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Leona was born April 24, 1925 on a farm near Redbird, Nebraska the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Hartland) Hull. The family later moved to the Beh farm northwest of Menlo in March, 1930. She was the youngest of her parent’s children. She had five sisters: Nellie May, Hattie Fay, Elsie Anna, Dorothy Maude and Bertha Lois and also two brothers, Peter Edward and James Frederick. She attended Menlo Consolidated Schools. Leona worked a number of different jobs, Menlo Telephone office and Post Office. She later attended beauty school and Leona opened up the Mainline Ice Cream Parlor.
On December 4, 1954 she and Carmon Lyddon were married at the Indianola Courthouse in Warren County. To this union was born two daughters, Viola Jeannette Lyddon whom passed away at the age of 11 years old in a car accident, and Victoria Ann Lyddon-Lindberg.
Leona also had a part in the raising of five children of her sisters: Cliel Cirilla, Mable Elsie, Carmon Noel, Charles Edward, and Francis Leroy “Pete” Lyddon. The family of Carmon and Leona lived their entire married life in the area of Guthrie and Adair County either on farms or in the towns of Menlo, Stuart or Casey. Together they enjoyed the creation of God’s hand and things of nature and teaching guidance of Jesus. They vacationed in most every state in the United States and enjoyed a full life together. Carmon passed away in July, 2006 and Leona continued to live at the Parkview Terrace Apartments until moving to the Greenfield Nursing and Rehab in 2020.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, siblings; son-in-law, Jerry Lindberg and numerous extended family members.
Leona leaves behind her daughter, Victoria Lyddon-Lindberg; son, Francis “Pete” Lyddon; grandsons Nicholas Lindberg and Ryan (Stacey) Lyddon and their family. She also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
