Lester Harold Carper, 88 of Stuart formerly of Redfield passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Visitation will be held from 10-11 A.M. on Tuesday, December 5th at the Redfield Christian Church. Graveside service will follow at 11 A.M. at East Linn Cemetery near Redfield. Lester was born on September 17, 1929 to Roy and Virginia Ellen (Shroyer) Carper in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He grew up in Guthrie Center and attended Guthrie Center Schools. He worked several jobs over the years in Guthrie Center, working at gas stations and the Lumberyard, the Casey Elevator, grain and feed store in Adel and lastly as a road maintainer for Dallas County retiring after 22 years. He was united in marriage to Frances Parker Reed on June 21, 1969 in Redfield.
He was a member of the Redfield Christian Church. In his spare time he enjoyed dancing, and camping. He also enjoyed wood working, attending stock car races, most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Mildred (Max) Knowlton, Dorothy (Dayton) Lehman, Kenneth “Cecil” Carper; step-son, Robert Reed; and brother-in-law, Melvin Dorr.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Frances of Stuart; children: Ronald (Kristi) Carper of Menlo, LaVonne (Kyle) Morris of Colorado Springs, CO, Arlene (Randy) Harwood; step-children: Caroline Morgan of Redfield, Ron (Chris) Reed of Fontanelle, Randy (Marti) Reed of Perry, Connie (Larry) Mylan of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas and Cindy (Al) Scaglione of Urbandale; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marie Dorr of Boone; numerous step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
