Linda Ann Jorgensen Underwood, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, at the age of 72 in Stuart, Iowa. Born on July 6, 1952, in Las Vegas, Nevada, Linda's life was a testament to the power of nurturing relationships and the joy of lifelong learning.
Raised in the warm community of Henderson, Nevada. Linda's early years were filled with the bustling energy of a vibrant city. She completed her high school education in Henderson, laying a strong foundation for her future academic pursuits. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Wichita, Kansas, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. It was in Wichita that Linda's heart found its match; she married the love of her life, Raymond Paul Underwood, on July 27, 1974. Their union was blessed with a daughter, Beth, who would become the center of Linda's world.
The Underwoods' journey together took them from Wichita to Derby, Kansas, and later to St. Joseph, Missouri. Each move was an opportunity for Linda to touch more lives with her warmth and generosity. Upon retirement, Linda and Raymond moved to Stuart, Iowa, to be closer to their beloved daughter and her family, including their cherished grandchildren, Rainer and Ceige.
Family was the cornerstone of Linda's life. She was a devoted wife to Raymond, a nurturing mother to Beth (Jeremy) Underwood, and a doting grandmother. Linda's love also extended to her sisters, Barb (Johann) Kordestani and Sherri Bodenstab, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. Her presence was a source of comfort and joy to her family, and her absence will leave a void that can never be filled.
Linda's interests were as varied as they were fulfilling. She dedicated herself to volunteering, offering her time and compassion to those in need. Gardening was a particular passion, and she could often be found tending to her plants, cultivating beauty in her corner of the world. Sundays held a special place in her heart, reserved for family, church, and the cherished tradition of a family meal. These moments of togetherness were the highlights of her week.
An avid sports fan, Linda enjoyed the thrill of football, NASCAR, and hockey, cheering on her favorite teams with spirited enthusiasm (Go Chiefs!). Yet, it was her love for her grandchildren that brought her the greatest joy. Spending time with Rainer and Ceige, she imparted wisdom and shared in their laughter, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Linda's impact on the world was as quiet as it was profound. She was the embodiment of love, kindness, and thoughtfulness. Her ability to listen, her readiness to help, and her desire to see a smile on the faces of others were the hallmarks of her character. Linda's legacy is one of selfless love and the countless lives she touched with her gentle spirit.
As we bid farewell to Linda Ann Jorgensen Underwood, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that will continue to inspire. Her spirit, etched in the hearts of those she loved, will remain a guiding light for generations to come. Linda's journey on earth has ended, but her story—written in the lives she shaped—will never be forgotten.
A gathering of friends and family will be held Saturday, May 31st, 2-4pm, at the Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Stuart.
