Lola L. Farley, a beacon of kindness and selflessness, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. She was born on March 7, 1945, in Missouri, to Orville and Evelyn Irene (Neiderhauser) Brown and she carried the warmth of her birthplace throughout her 79 years of a life well-lived.
Lola's early years were spent in Missouri before her family moved to Booneville, Iowa in 1949, and finally settled in Perry in 1951. It was here that Lola's nurturing spirit was cultivated, attending Perry High School and briefly nursing school, planting the seeds for her lifelong dedication to caring for others.
On December 30, 1977, Lola was united in marriage to John Farley, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter in Casey, Iowa. Lola's professional journey included meaningful work at Woodward State Hospital, Oscar Mayer, and a nursing home. She eventually retired from Farm Bureau, where she left a lasting impression through her years of dedicated service.
Lola's zest for life was evident in her many interests. She had a passion for travel, especially trips to visit family in Missouri and excursions to Branson, Missouri. Her home was a treasure trove of collections, from Barbie dolls to salt and pepper shakers, stamps, and coins. Each item told a story, a testament to her love for the simple joys in life.
Family was the cornerstone of Lola's world. She was a devoted wife to John Farley of Casey, and following their marriage became an additional parent to four beautiful children, Alan (Sally) Farley of Perry, Cathie (James) Harrison of Georgia, David (Martha) Farley of Adair, and Barb Farley of Colorado, and a cherished sister to Doris Westphal, Betty (Steve) Bebout, Linda (Scott Westering) Birch, and Rosie Lemke, along with her brother Robert Brown. Lola's heart was big enough to encompass her host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom will carry the memory of her love and kindness.
Lola's legacy of generosity and warmth extended beyond her family. Her home was always open, a welcoming haven for anyone in need of a meal or a friendly chat. She and John were known for their festive Easter egg hunts, and her family will always remember Christmas gatherings which were filled with joy and togetherness.
Although she now joins her parents, her infant sister Patricia, and siblings Sharon, Orville Jr., Beverly, and Shirley in eternal rest, Lola's spirit remains a guiding light for all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, love, and selflessness, qualities that defined her and that she shared abundantly with the world.
Lola L. Farley's journey on earth has concluded, but her story continues in the hearts of those she touched. Her smile, her warmth, and her unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Lola's life was a beautiful tapestry of the love she gave and the love she received, a life truly well-lived and cherished by many.
