Obituary for Louise Frey
Mary Louise Frey was born September 19, 1933, to Fred and Grace (Murray) Gonseth in Clarke County, Iowa. She died peacefully on August 24, 2019, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa, surrounded by family and close friends.

Louise graduated from Earlham High School in 1952 and married Harold Frey on May 10, 1953. They were blessed with two children, Linda and Mike.

Following graduation, Louise was a telephone switchboard operator at Pitzer and Winterset. She worked for Peer, Nelson, and Braland Law Office for many years and then did income taxes at home for a few more years. Louise was passionate about her yard and flower beds and was very proud of them. She enjoyed interior decorating in her own home, and for family members, her church, and for friends. Louise always enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildrens’ ballgames, activities and cattle shows; loved to shop; played cards; and traveled on cruises and bus trips. Every Christmas each family household received a cherished package of her homemade cinnamon rolls to enjoy Christmas morning and Christmas dinner featured her homemade dinner rolls and noodles. Louise was a loving and giving person—always ready to drop everything to help anyone when and where needed. She was a treasured friend and loved to entertain in her home.

Louise was a member of the Earlham Church of Christ, Pioneer Place Board, Country Ladies Bridge Club, Red Hat Society, and Ponytail Card Club.

Louise is survived by her daughter Linda Smith and husband Jim; son Michael and wife Penny; sister Margaret Henkle and husband Wilbur; grandchildren Ben Applegate and wife Angie; Andy Smith and wife Jamie; Angi Allison and husband Randy; Matt Smith; Harrison Frey; Parker Frey; great-grandchildren Lily Applegate, Neela Applegate, Haley Smith and Cael Allison; uncle Charles Gonseth and wife Marilyn; nieces and nephews; and a huge host of friends.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Frey; parents, Fred & Grace (Murray) Gonseth; and sister Freda.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. on Tuesday, August 27th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Earlham. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 28th at the Earlham Church of Christ. Burial will be at the Earlham Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Louise Frey Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
