Obituary for LuVena Mae Bennett
LuVena Mae Bennett, 89, of Redfield, Iowa passed away February 14, 2022, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, February 20th, 2022, at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart Chapel. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Monday, February 21st at the Friends Church in Stuart. A luncheon will immediately follow the services at the First Congregational Church in Stuart. Burial will follow the luncheon in West Linn Cemetery in Linden. Memorial contributions may be made to the LuVena Bennett Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
LuVena was born March 9, 1932, to John Edwin and LuVena Burl (Secoy) Knapp in Stuart, Iowa. She grew up in and graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1950. She was united in marriage to Howard Bennett on June 4, 1950, in Stuart and together they became the proud parents of eight children: Howard Jr., Ellen, Gwen, Tim, Tony, Tom, Carol and Crystal. After their marriage they made their home in Redfield. LuVena babysat for many years and through the years took care of most of the kids in Redfield. She was a lifelong member of the Friends Church in Stuart, which was a source of inspiration and hope for her. LuVena was also a member of a local bible study in Redfield. LuVena and Howard were very honored to be the grand marshal a few years back at Old Settler Days festivities. She enjoyed gardening, canning vegetables, sewing, reading her bible every morning, nature watching, avid Hawkeye fan and spending time with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Knapp, LuVena Burl Ratliff Knapp, brother, Warren Ratliff, sister, Helen Harvey, sister, Rose Deo, brother John Knapp and granddaughter, Sarah Salazar.
LuVena leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved children, Howard Bennett Jr of Redfield, Iowa, Ellen (Ken) McFarland of Redfield, Iowa, Gwen (Jim) Leavell of Stuart, Iowa, Tim (Chris) Bennett of Waterloo, Iowa, Tony (Roxanna) Bennett of Stuart, Iowa, Tom (Thom) Bennett/Guzman of Prescott, Iowa, Carol (Bob) Salazar of Dexter, Iowa and Crystal Wieda of Redfield, Iowa; 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Karla Knapp of Ankeny, Iowa and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
