Lyle John Derry, 69, of Stuart, Iowa passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The family is holding a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Dexter. A time of fellowship will be held following the service at the church. Burial will be held at a later date in Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyle Derry Memorial Fund and may be sent to the family.
Lyle was born May 14, 1945 in California to Claire and Hazel Miller Derry. He grew up outside of the Panora area and graduated from Panora High School with the class of 1964. Lyle was united in marriage to Susan Taylor in 1975 in Jefferson and together they were the proud parents of seven children. After their marriage they lived in Perry and Dexter before making their home in Stuart to care for his mother. Lyle worked as an over the road truck driver for several years, a job he dearly loved before being injured on the job. Lyle went to Des Moines Community College and received his degree in Office Management and then became the manager at Wallace Auto Supplies (NAPA) in Stuart. After his retirement, Lyle continued to fill in at the store for many years. He enjoyed camping, gardening and canning fresh vegetables out of his garden, working on cars and spending time with his family and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claire and Hazel Miller and one sister, Carol Ann Betty.
Lyle leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Susan of Stuart; children, Pamela Jo Derry of Grand Island, Nebraska, Curtis Lee Derry of Deatsville, Alabama, Louise Ann Derry of Crestview, Florida, Jason Wade Derry of Deatsville, Alabama, Karen Sue Derry of Dexter, Iowa, Jacob John Derry of Stuart, Iowa and Mark Lyle Derry of Dexter, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a host of friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
