Obituary for Marvin Whetstone
Marvin D. Whetstone, 88, of Stuart, Iowa passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Stuart. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 13, at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be held in Dalmanutha Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Guthrie Center 4-H Foundation and/or the Adair County 4-H Foundation. Marvin was born April 28, 1929, the son of Stanley and Bessie (Madsen) Whetstone. He was raised in the rural Casey rea and attended Thompson No. 4 country school and graduated from Casey High School with the class of 1946.
He was united in marriage to Ruth Chambers in 1949 and to this union three children were born. They farmed near Casey, Iowa, moving to Stuart in 1962.
He married Vera Wormley in 1975 and they lived on a farm south of Stuart. Marvin raised corn and soybeans and loved taking care of his cattle. Though Marvin enjoyed being a farmer, he was also an auctioneer, helping sell livestock at the Stuart and Anita sale barns, also had farm sales and real estate sales.
Marvin is survived by his sister Joan Reed of Atlantic, Iowa; daughter, Meleah Whetstone of Tucson, Arizona and her children, Devin and Logan; son Bruce Whetstone of Oakland, California; son Dan Whetstone of Toddville, Iowa and his children, Lauren, Leanne and Ross; stepson, Kevin Wormley (Susan) of Diamond Head Lake, Iowa; step-son, Greg Wormley (Maria) of Glenwood, Iowa; step-daughter, Nani Heywood of Stuart, Iowa; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Whetstone of Casey, Iowa and a host of friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
