Mary Ellen Abbott, 69 of rural Menlo passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 12 Noon on Saturday, May 8th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Prayer service will begin approximately 11:30 A.M. Lunch will be served following the visitation at the Menlo Community Building. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mary Abbott Memorial Fund. Mary was born on July 24, 1951 to Max and Mable (White) Pieper in Stuart. She grew up south of Stuart and attended Stuart Schools. While in school, she participated in band. Mary graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1969. On April 28, 1973 she was united in marriage to Melvin Abbott at the Christian Church in Guthrie Center. To this union two children were born, Regina and Bryan.
Mary worked at Employers Mutual, the Menlo and Casey Banks and lastly at Equitable Life in Des Moines and Charlotte, North Carolina. In her spare time, Mary loved to bake especially wedding and anniversary cakes. She also enjoyed tending to her garden. Most of all, she treasured time she was able to spend with her grandkids, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters-in-law, Vicki Pieper and Dawn Pieper.
Mary leaves behind her husband, Melvin of Menlo; daughter, Regina Villalpando (fiancé Brad Andersen) of Waukee; son, Bryan (Amy) Abbott of Dexter; grandchildren: Ashley Buchanan, Jessica Buchanan, Alex Villalpando, Oscar Villalpando, Riley Abbott, Tyler Abbott, Dylan Abbott and Courtney Abbott; brothers, Bob Pieper and Kenny Pieper; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
