Obituary for Mary Ellen (Benedict) Harrison
Mary Ellen Benedict Harrison was born on February 16, 1937 in Union County, Iowa. Mary was the daughter of Alexander Newton and Mary Hanna Wright Benedict. They lived in Lorimor, Iowa she went to Lorimor school and played basketball. In her later years Mary meet a boy named Donnie they started to see each other with the help of her brother Henry. They would go to the show as the three of them but Henry would leave them alone and go do something else. Donald Dean Harrison and Mary Ellen Benedict were married on March 1, 1953 and from that union there was two sons, Donald Allen Harrison and Stephen Mark Harrison. Mary worked at many nursing homes as a CNA, she also worked at the Stage Stop and Granny’s as a hostess. She moved around from Winterset, Dexter, Stuart, Redfield, Greenfield and back to Redfield.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, watching TV and the loves of her life her dogs. First was JJ, a little brown chihuahua he was born in February, 1999. JJ had cancer and had to be put to sleep and was cremated, and his ashes will go with Mary so they can go on playing. Second was Tori who was a Golden Haired Cocker Spaniel. Mary rescued him from the ARL. She has had Tori for 13 years, he is blind and only sees shapes and shadows. Tori was taken to live his life out with Marvin.
Mary is survived by her son, Donald and wife Roxane Harrison, four granddaughters: Amanda Harrison, Crystel Harrison and friend Chad, Angela and husband Christopher Moffitt, Paige Brown and friend Josh; three grandsons: Donald Jr. and wife Tina Harrison, Chris Harrison, Shawn and wife Hanna Harrison; twelve great- grandchildren: Baily Harrison, Kayla Harrison, Kaiden Harrison, Joseph Harrison, Riley Harrison, Erica Harrison, Lelah Harrison, Britney Harrison, Jesse Harrison, Kaylynn Harrison, Breahna Moffitt and Payton Harrison; two great-great- granddaughters, Brielle Harrison and Azarah Harrison; one brother Chuck and wife Rose Benedict; and many nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents Alexander Newton and Mary Hanna (Wright) Benedict; son Stephen Mark Harrison, great-grandson, Zackery Lee Harrison; three sisters: Ona Benedict, Nina and husband Harold Craig, Elizabeth and husband Harold Blunt; four brothers Delbert and wife Pat Benedict, Everett and wife Silvia Benedict, Ralph and wife Amy Benedict, Henry and wife Rita Benedict and several other family and friends.
