Maxine was born on August 19, 1922 to Joseph Sanford and Mary Fonda (Thompson) Saylor south east of Stuart, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm east of Greenfield on Highway 92 and attended school and later graduating from Greenfield High School with the class of 1940. On August 14, 1942 she was united in marriage to Wm F. “Bill” McGinnis at Maryville, Missouri. To this union six children were born: James, Joan, Francis, Rita, Pat and Julie Ann. The family made their home on the farm south of Stuart where Maxine helped Bill with the farming and raising kids. Bill and Maxine enjoyed fishing, camping and attending country music festivals. In 1983, they started going to Texas for the winters and made many new friends traveling and visiting relatives. There were several family picnics and reunions at the family farm. Following Bill’s death, she married Louie Nelson in 2001 at Fairview Church. She loved the time she was able to spend with Louie until his death in 2004. They enjoyed traveling and camping together.

She was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, doing crafts, gardening and playing cards with Bill. She was particularly fond of country music and westerns especially Bonanza and Lawrence Welk. Most of all she treasured time she was able to spend with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter, Julie Ann; and all her brothers and sisters. Maxine was the last and oldest member of the Saylor and McGinnis families.

She leaves behind her children: James (Marti) McGinnis of Tucson, AZ, Joan Brooking of Stuart, Francis (Ardis) McGinnis of Dexter, Rita McGinnis of Stuart and Pat (Jeanie) McGinnis of the Home Farm; grandchildren: Mike McGinnis, Pat McGinnis, Tim (Kelly) McGinnis, Debbie (Jerry) DuPuma, Tammy Ward, Shelly (Jeremy) Carlson, Greg (Sheryl) Jones, Alan Jones, Jessica (David) Parks, Jeanette Keifer, Monica McGinnis, Lisa (Jeff) Guffy, Randy (Kelly) McGinnis, Cynthia (Chad) Irelimer, Darcia Clifton and Darren Clifton; 36 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
