Melba (Stapes) Boone, 84, of Omaha, Nebraska passed away February 5, 2021 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. Per Melba’s wishes, a private family service and burial will be held at Harper Cemetery in Redfield, Iowa.
Melba was born in Redfield, Iowa to Floyd and Anna (Rochholz) Stapes. She grew up in Redfield and graduated from Redfield High School with the class of 1953. While in high school, Melba played basketball and sang in the choir. Melba continued living in Redfield until 1964 when she moved to Stuart, Iowa. While in Stuart, she worked at Cobb’s Café then various restaurants in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1975, Melba moved to Des Moines before making her home in Wood River, Nebraska, where she was employed by Bosselman’s Truckstop. Melba ultimately purchased and managed the restaurant which she renamed, Mel’s Country Café. Following her retirement in 1998, Melba moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she was united in marriage to William Boone.
While in Omaha, Melba took a special interest in church, which was a source of hope and inspiration to her. After moving to Hickory Villa Assisted Living facility, Melba continued serving the Lord by inspiring all she came to know and love at Hickory Villa.
Melba found joy in spending time with her family, watching sports including women’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and college football. Needless to say, the Cornhuskers were her favorite team! After all, she watched Scott Frost play high school football with her grandson Jamie Morgan, while living in Wood River, Nebraska!
Melba is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Anna Stapes and two brothers, Merlin Stapes and Darrell Stapes.
Melba leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, William Boone; children, Bob (Mary) Morgan, Kelly (John) Brown, Karen (Bob) Halverson; grandchildren, Dan Morgan and Abigail (Joe) Durant, Jamie (Mandi) Morgan, and Jason Morgan, Angela Morgan and Charmaine (Michael) Ford; great-grandchildren, Ella Durant, Ellie, Amaya, Layla, and Ember Morgan, Dylan White, Faith Block, Jackson and Maizie Morgan, Jordan, Xavier, Glen, and Isaiah Morgan, Hezekiah, Josiah, and Luana Ford; great-great-grandchildren, Jazabel Vargas-Morgan and Xavier Jr. Sanchez; brother, Lloyd Stapes and a host of nieces, nephews and friends, all of who will miss her greatly.
