Obituary for Myrtle Lorene Heckman
Myrtle L. Heckman, 91, of Menlo passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Sunday, November 30th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, December 1st at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Menlo. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Myrtle Heckman Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Myrtle was born December 23, 1922 on the family farm west of Adair in Audubon County, Iowa to William John and Alice Mary Stewart Blake. Myrtle grew up on a farm south of Dexter and she graduated from Dexter High School with the class of 1940. She was united in marriage to Ralph Heckman on October 24, 1942 in Maryville, Missouri and together they became the proud parents of three children, Marvin, Ellen and Bill. After their marriage they lived on several farms around the area before finally settling on a farm East of Menlo where they lived until moving into town in 1990. Myrtle worked for Randolph’s Egg Plant in Des Moines before being employed at the Stuart Community Care Center where she worked for 20 plus years before retiring. Myrtle was a member of the Naomi Circle and the Menlo United Methodist Church. She enjoyed animals, helping on the farm, collecting salt and pepper shakers, baking and attending the Huff and Heckman family reunions.
She is preceded in death by her parents William and Alice Blake, her beloved husband, Ralph in 1991, daughter, Ellen Sue and two sisters, Alice Maxine Blake and Mary Elizabeth Blake.
Myrtle leaves behind to cherish her memory, two sons, Marvin (Debbie) Heckman of McHenry, Illinois and Bill (Connie) Heckman of Menlo, Iowa, son-in-law, Terry Jennings of Des Moines, Iowa; brother, Merle (Ruby) Blake of Audubon, Iowa; grandchildren, David (Becky) Heckman of Wonder Lake, Illinois, Jodi (Andy) Dignan of Lockport, Illinois, Connie Sue (Kevin) Djuth, Carrie Scott and Kristy (Keith) Zoellner all of Des Moines, Iowa, Mandy (Zach) Caldwell of Wick, Iowa and James R. Lyman of Winterset, Iowa; great grandchildren, Garrett and Grant Heckman, Riley and Kara Dignan, Stella Scott, Betty Zoellner, Seth and Ame Jo Caldwell and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and all of the Stuart Community Care Center staff and residents.
