Nathan was a devoted husband to Peggy, his wife, and a wonderful father to his six children. Nathan was born May 9th, 1974 in Farmington, New Mexico. He grew up in northeastern Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. His family moved to Sioux City, Iowa in the summer of 1988. He attended East High School in Sioux City and then attended Letourneau University in Longview Texas. He worked for BPI for 14 months as a design engineer. He then attended the University of South Dakota where he received his masters degree in education. He taught high school physics for the past 25 years at West Des Moines Valley High School where he also coached the science bowl and knowledge bowls teams, and took several of them to nationals. For his students he was always available to talk to and loved to make school fun by wearing wacky shirts and sharing strange and interesting science facts. Shortly after he moved to Clive, he began attending Hilltop Chapel in Redfield, Iowa where he met his wife. They were married on September 2nd, 2000. They settled in Dexter, Iowa where they have lived for 23 years. While in Dexter, he was involved in the community by coaching and refereeing soccer for the Stuart United Soccer Club as well as serving on the soccer board. He also helped coach his daughters’ homeschool Classics basketball team. He was very active in his Church by speaking regularly and by helping out with different outreach events. Besides teaching, coaching, and being involved in his church, he enjoyed gardening, canning, hiking, camping, fishing, and being with his family.
Nathan is survived by his wife Peggy and his six children Abigail, Josef, Bethany, Micah, Meleah, and Kassia, his parents Dann and Linda, his siblings Renae (Matt) Marcus, Nolan (Briana) Speichinger, Kristin (Jair) Baker, Malcolm (Morgan) Speichinger, and Isaiah (Haley) Speichinger, his father-in-law Paul Merical, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in law Jill Merical, Janice (Paul) Topliff, Daniel Merical, and Phillip Merical, and many nephews and nieces.
