Norma Genave Wilcox was born to Harvey Ermont and Thelma (Morgan) Wilcox on December 31, 1933 in Panora, Iowa. She died peacefully in Tuttle, Oklahoma at the home of her daughter on February 23, 2015, at the age of 81. Norma grew up on the family farm north of Menlo. Norma was baptized and confirmed at the Menlo Presbyterian Church. She attended the Menlo Schools, graduated with the class of 1952, and then attended Grinnell College.
On August 15, 1954 Norma married Lester William Steckelberg at the Presbyterian Church in Menlo. They were blessed with five children; Joseph, Jill, Jeffrey, Jason, and Jonathon. She was an active member of the Menlo United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher and choir member. Norma had the pleasure of traveling with Lester to Korea, Hawaii, Spain, and the New York World Fair. She also enjoyed bus trips with the Ladies Farm Bureau. Norma and Lester owned the Sears store in Guthrie Center for many years. Norma had fun playing cards with the Menlo Pinnacle club, playing bingo in southwest Iowa, and trying her luck at the slot machines in Las Vegas and Oklahoma. The joy of her life was seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent hours talking on the phone with her friends and family.
She leaves to celebrate her life, three sons; Joseph (Nancy Jo), Jason (Dana), and Jonathon (Michaelle Johnson); one daughter, Jill Jones (Scott Clayton); 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Viola (Lester) Hass; and many friends and relatives.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son; her parents; an infant brother; her sister, Elizabeth Carrick; and brother-in-law, Lester Carrick.
