Ralph Lloyd Sheeder, 87, of Casey passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Visitation will be held from 3-5 P.M. on Sunday, November 1st at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, November 2nd at the Casey United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Casey. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ralph Sheeder Memorial Fund and sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Ralph was born January 9, 1928 to Henry and Blanche (Harwood) Sheeder in Adair County. He was the last of couple’s ten children. He attended Prussia #1 Country School, three years at Greenfield High School and graduating from Casey High School. Following graduation Ralph was drafted in the United States Army where he served our country, receiving an honorable discharge. On July 9, 1950, Ralph was united in marriage to Grace LaVonne Avey at Greenfield, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Ray, Kathleen, Gail and Debra. The family made their home in Casey.
Ralph was employed for 23 years at Armstrong Tire and Rubber in Des Moines. Ralph was also employed at McDonald’s Lumber Yard and farmed. He was a member of the URW Local 164, American Legion and the Snappy Steppers Square Dance Club. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, camping and traveling on bus tours. In his spare time, Ralph used his skill of carpentry, remodeling many houses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Blanche; brothers: Lyman, John, Gerald, Gaylord; sisters: Clara, Mildred, Eva and Florence.
Ralph leaves behind his loving wife Grace LaVonne of Casey; children: Ray (Sue) Sheeder of Dexter, Kathleen “Kat” (David) Betts of Stuart, Gail Sheeder of Casey, Debra Sheeder (Greg Gowdy) of Newton; grandchildren: Brandi (Lyle) Nevins, April (Jason) Dillinger, Jamie (Jason) Willis, Jessica (Jay) Gohn, Tawnya Sheeder, Zak (Caitlin) Sheeder, Tracy (Darin) Hall, Jeremiah (Christine) Betts, Bridget Sheeder, Britni Sheeder, Tiffany Sheeder, Brice Sheeder, Valerie Sheeder, Jeremy Sheeder; 25 great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer Sheeder of Greenfield; and a host of other family and friends that will miss him dearly.
