Richard “Dick” Barnett, 68 of rural Earlham passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Celebration of life potluck will be held from 1-4 P.M. Saturday, November 13th at the Bear Creek Church. Cards of condolence may be sent to the Barnett Family, in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Dick was born on August 23, 1953 to Marvin and Margaret (Stanley) Barnett in Winterset. He grew up in Redfield and attended Dexfield Schools graduating with the class of 1971. Following graduation, he attended DMACC and then Welding School in Ohio. On October 25, 1975 he was united in marriage to Taressa “Terie” Wolfe. To this union four children were born: Justin, Marcy, Brandon and Marissa. The family made their home outside of Redfield. Dick worked as a welder at John Deere for 36 years before his retirement.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, his longhorn cattle, car racing, organic farming and books. He was also an avid car collector and frequent auction attender. Most of all he treasured time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brandon Marvin Barnett; and grandparents, Willard and Mabel Barnett.
Dick leaves behind his wife, Taressa “Terie” ; children: Justin (Karen) Barnett, Marcy Heuton (Mitch), and Marissa (Jeramy) Akins; grandchildren: Aimee (Trever) Surber, Daytona Barnett, Kyle Bates, Chaylee (Brady) Campfield, Kayt Luellen, Sophia Heuton, Paislee Akins and Bryndle Akins; great-grandchildren: Summer Surber, Octavia Surber, Luna Surber, Addison Campfield and one more on the way; siblings: Deb (Dan) Doherty, Kris (Jim) Robinson, Kim (Terri) Jones, Barry (Brenda) Jones and Troy (Cassie) Jones; brother-in-law, Mark Wolfe and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
In the spirit of Dick Barnett we want to share his long standing joke one last time: “Don’t be a Richard!”
