Keith as he was known by family and friends was born November 23, 1933 on the family farm in Casey to Charles and Irene Knauer Caltrider. He grew up and lived pretty much his entire life on that farm. Keith attended rural grade schools and graduated from Casey High School with the class of 1952. After graduating, he enrolled at Iowa State University where he was taking class prior to enlisting into the United States Army. During this time, Keith was stationed in Hawaii. After being discharged in 1958, Keith returned home and helped his father on the farm. He was united in marriage to Karla Wesack on September 6, 1959 at the Emmanuelle Lutheran Church in Adair and to this union two children were born, Jennifer and Kevin. Farming was Keith’s real passion in life, which he continued doing until allergies forced him to retire. Keith then was employed at John Deere in Adair and Greenfield until the early mid 1980’s when the farm crisis hit. He then went to work for Mahle Corporation in Atlantic, which he thoroughly enjoyed before retiring. He was well known for being an honest, loving, and caring man not only to his family, but everyone he came in contact with. Keith was a lifelong member of the Casey United Methodist Church and held many offices within the church throughout the years. He was also a past president for 22 years and a 30 year member of the Casey Telephone Board, charter member of the Casey Lions Club, charter member of the 5X80, belonged to the Iowa Barn Foundation, a past member of Farm Bureau, and became a member of the Iowa Century Farm Association. “Keith cherished his family, and enjoyed spending time with his friends”. He was an “avid card player”, and loved playing games with his grandchildren as well as being an avid outdoorsman in which he enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Irene Caltrider; siblings, Raymond (Eva) Caltrider and Betty (Donnie) Slayton; mother and father-in-law; sister-in-law and great-granddaughter, Ayriez Howard.
Keith leaves behind his loving wife, Karla of Atlantic; children, Jennifer (Mick) Allen of Atlantic and Kevin (Michelle) Caltrider of Carroll; grandchildren: Alissa (James) Puffett, James Howard, Benjamin Caltrider, Trevor Caltrider, and Paige Caltrider; great grandson, Xayne Howard and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that will miss him dearly.
