Obituary for Ricky "Rick" Cassady
Ricky "Rick" David Cassady, age 65, passed away in the early morning on Thursday June 9th 2022. This also happened to be the same day of his father's passing 33 years apart.
Rick was the 4th born to Earl and Bonnie Cassady in Des Moines, Iowa on February 13th 1957. He grew up in Earlham, Iowa. Went to Winterset high school and graduated in 1976. He was known for his athletic abilities, he played baseball and football all through school. He would say the coach would only let him bat left handed if the bases were full, he usually got home runs batting left handed.
Shortly after high school he married Veda, and together they bared a daughter Jennifer. Not too far after the young couple divorced, Rick met his second wife of 20 years, Pam, and bared another 3 daughters, Lucinda, Samantha and Karissa. In 2004 Rick was reacquainted with Sherri, who he knew from high school. They married in 2005, then the couple tragically lost a daughter when Sherri was just 8 months pregnant.
Throughout Rick's life he enjoyed many things. One could almost always catch him at a river somewhere with his fishing poles and a cooler full of diet mountain dew. Fishing was a calming hobby of Rick's. He'd share his favorite fishing spots with his daughters, nieces and nephews. In his younger years Rick was on an adult bowling league. He even got his and Pam's daughters into junior bowling leagues in Adel, Iowa.
In the last few years of Rick's life, after he suffered from a massive stroke in 2016, he just simply enjoyed watching his favorite TV shows, wrestling, or any Iowa Hawkeyes and Cyclones game. He was a big fan for both teams.
There was nothing that Rick loved more than his 13 grandchildren. He loved hearing about how they were doing in school and would ask for pictures to be sent to his phone. Whenever he had the chance he would pull out his phone and show off the pictures he had of them.
Rick was known to be a jokester. He never missed an opportunity to scare someone and make them jump or possibly drop whatever object they had in their hands.
Rick is proceeded in death by his parents Earl and Bonnie Cassady, one sister Bonnie "Kay", one brother Jimmy, his late wife Sherri, and one daughter Alexandria.
Rick is survived by his two sisters, Betty(Larry) Stahl of Stuart, Iowa and Dolly(Dennis) Raynor of Centerville, Iowa. His 4 brother's, Larry of Casey, Iowa, Danny(Kandy) Cassady of Redfield, Iowa, Gary(Nancy) Cassady of Earlham, Iowa, and Leslie Cassady of Casey, Iowa. Also survived by countless number of nieces and nephews and great niece's and nephews, even a couple great-great nieces and nephews. There are also his 4 beautiful daughters, Jeni(Doug) Marchik of Corralville, Iowa, Luci Cassady of Adel, Iowa, Sammi(Jeff) Hannes of Wilton, Iowa, and Kari(Mike) Hayes of Nevada, Iowa. And the greatest joys of his life, his 12 soon to be 13 grandchildren. Fay, Zavier, Mya, Raya, Chase, Jessica, Allixandria, Benjamin, Ashton, Perseus, Vincent, Darrell, and Ronin due to arrive in October.
Family wishes to invite all who wish to come, to attend a celebration of life for Ricky to be set at a later date. And to honor his love wear Iowa Hawkeyes or Iowa Cyclones apparel.
