Robert was born on September 6, 1943, to Vern and Arlene Reynolds in Des Moines. He grew up and lived his entire life in the Redfield/Dexter area and attended Dexfield High School, graduating with the class of 1962. During high school, he was active in sports, band and served as the FFA president his senior year. Robert and his classmates were all very close and he has kept in touch with them all his life. While in high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserves. On June 28, 1964, he was united in marriage to Dorothy “Dode” Robison at the Redfield Christian Church. The couple was blessed with two children, Juliane in 1967 and Justin in 1970.
Robert began his working career at Iowa Soya, before becoming a lifelong farmer. He was a conservator of the land and always strived to leave the land better than he found it. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years and passed those skills to his children. He always wanted to pass on important life lessons to his children, grandchildren, and others. Following his retirement from farming, he worked for Rhodes Trucking and Voss Concrete. He would always be the first up in the morning and the last to bed at night. He had a sense of humor, telling stories and could make friends anywhere he went.
Robert was a member of the Redfield Christian Church serving as Elder and Board chairman, Dallas County Pork Producers and served as the Dallas County Soil Commissioner. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, dancing, going to car shows in his 1937 Oldsmobile, welding metal work, and spending time going to country music and bluegrass festivals with Dode. Robert and Dode instilled their love for music and hard work in their children as well. Robert was always ready to help someone in need and would drop what he was doing to do just that.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Arlene Reynolds; Father in-law Clarence Robison; Stepfather in-law Max Mathis. Siblings: Patricia (Jim) Bathurst, Marvin Reynolds, Gary (Joyce) Reynolds and brother in-law, Bill Forshier. Nieces: Rochelle Reynolds and Jodi Reynolds. Nephew: Ryan Reynolds.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Dode of 59 years of Dexter; daughter, Juliane (David) Maynard of Dexter; son, Justin (Jessica) Reynolds of Redfield. Grandchildren: Matthew Aldrich, Donald Maynard, Riley Reynolds, and Alex Reynolds; step granddaughter Kaylee Maynard; great-grandson Dawson Aldrich. Siblings: Shirley Forshier, Richard (Barb) Reynolds and Randy (Marylin) Reynolds; Mother in-law, Edna Mathis; sister in laws, Donna Reynolds, and Doris (Harold) Feller; several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
