Hooch, as he was better known by family and friends was born on August 1, 1938 to Vinco and Catherine (Starcevich) Grzanich in Dunfermline, Illinois. He grew up and attended schools in Dunfermline. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served honorably until his discharge in 1959. On June 6, 1959 he was united in marriage to Janice Kay Vest and to this union three daughters were born: Janese, Roberta and Barbara. The family made their home in Des Moines, Diamondhead Lake, Greenfield and Stuart before Hooch moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Hooch worked for many years at Pirelli-Armstorng in Des Moines until his retirement. He enjoyed his morning breakfast club at McDonalds and had a nickname for everyone. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Chicago Cubs and polka music. Most of all, he deeply cared for people; helping his family and friends with anything they needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vinco and Catherine; wife, Janice; infant brother, George; sister, Gloria Jean and brother, Andrew.
He leaves behind his daughters: Janese (Jake) Starrett, Roberta (Mike) Baety, and Barbara (Ken) Snell; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers: Ron (Sandy) Grzanich, Tom (Carol) Grzanich, Phil (Vicki) Grzanich, and Dan Grzanich; sisters: Mary Ann (Keith) Mussleman, Diana Peckman (Tom Collins), Angie (John) Wright, and Marcia Grzanich; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
