Robert Leroy Larson was born Aug. 8, 1930 to Harry and Esther (Arnburg) Larson in Casey Iowa. He died Feb. 14, 2019 at the Masonic Community Center in Perry, Iowa. Robert grew up in Casey, attended Casey Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1947. He married Norma Jean (Jeannie) Bassett on May 21, 1950. This union was blessed with children Bob, Bill, and Beth and foster son Ed Newland.

As a young man, Robert worked as a heavy equipment operator with Bassett Construction. In the 1960’s and early 70’s, Robert was a territory sales manager for General Tire and Rubber Company and later Seiberling Tire. This career led to the family living in both Nebraska and Kansas. In 1974, Robert and Jeannie moved back to Casey to farm and raise black Angus cattle. He also resumed his work with the U.S. Postal Service in 1990, receiving the Outstanding Carrier in the State of Iowa in 2002. He was a rural mail carrier for 28 years.

Robert was an active member of the Casey Methodist Church, where he held various offices throughout the years. He also was proud of his longtime membership in the Shrine Temple and Masonic Lodge. He worked diligently as a sexton for Dalmanutha Cemetery.
Family always came first, but Robert also enjoyed sports, camping, reading, visiting with friends, and cooking. He was a master gardener and was well known for his home canned tomato juice, peaches, and pickles. His homemade potato salad was served at many church functions and family gatherings.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Harry and Esther Larson, wife of 65 years Jeannie, son Edward, sister Barbara Persing, and brother Kenneth Larson. Surviving are children: Bob (Barb) Larson of Garden City, KS; Bill (Linda) Larson of Windsor, CO; Beth (Martin) Sunds of Van Meter, IA; daughter-in-law Carol Newland of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Phil Newland, Paul (Tasha) Newland, Adam (Brooke) Larson, Kyle (Anne) Larson, Kevin (Jill) Larson, Captain Joshua (Allison) Larson, Sara (Andrew) Ash, Connor (Danyelle)Larson, Haley (fiancé Taylor Burgraff) Sunds, and Jared Sunds; 12 great grandchildren; sister Cheryl (David) Glasgow; brother Karl (Sharon) Larson, sister-in-law Dolores Larson; numerous nephews, nieces and a host of other family and friends.
