Roger Wayne Riley, 78, of Guthrie Center, Iowa passed away peacefully February 25, 2022, at the Stuart Community Care Center. A Military graveside service will be held 12:30 P.M. Thursday, March 3, 2022, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery. Roger was born November 1, 1943, in Crete, Nebraska to Elmer and Sylvia (Reil) Riley. The family lived in Sutton until moving to Friend, Nebraska, where Roger graduated from Friend High School with the class of 1962. Following high school, Roger attended trade school until enlisting into the United States Army on January 3, 1963, and during this time moved up in rank to an E-5 and served as the Colonel’s Orderly. He was honorably discharged on December 20, 1965, and returned to the Nebraska area. Roger was united in marriage to Judy on August 2, 1968, in Friend, Nebraska and together they became the proud parents of two children, Jeremy and Heather. He was employed at Burroughs/Unisys in 1968 as a Computer Engineer. While with the company the family lived in Lincoln, Omaha, Kansas City and Des Moines where he retired in 2001 after 33 years of service with the company. Roger had always wanted to live in the country so after their retirement they moved to rural Guthrie Center where they made their home. Roger was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping with the family, hunting, fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed woodworking, watching westerns, smoking meat, cooking, watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Cubs, working with his dogs, working in his rather large garden, spending time with his family and friends and working at Doc’s Hunt Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Sylvia Riley and one sister, Virginia Klippert.

Roger leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Judy; children, Jeremy (Michelle) Riley of Clive, Iowa and Heather (Emily Fargione) Riley and their son Mo of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; siblings, Peg Boutot of Lincoln, Nebraska, Shirley (Bruce) Boden of Sterling, Nebraska and John (Gloria) Riley of Friend, Nebraska; in-laws, Roy Connolly of Hastings, Nebraska, Sharon Patton of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lila (Marvin) Kubicek of Gering, Nebraska, Ed (Jan) Connolly of Bellevue, Nebraska, Gretta Merrill of Mesa, Arizona and Sara (Gary) Heironymus of York, Nebraska and a host of nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
