Rosella “Rosie” (Hejlik) Tisl, 84, of Stuart passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Visitation will be from 3-5 P.M. on Sunday, January 28th with a rosary service beginning at 5 P.M. at the All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, January 29th at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for future designation. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Rosie was born on March 12, 1939 to Frank and Bessie (Vonasek) Hejlik on her parent’s farm near Britt, Iowa. She grew up on the farm and later attended high school at Good Counsel Academy in Mankato, Minnesota, graduating with the class of 1956. Rosie attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids where she met the love of her life, David Tisl, at a dance. Rosie and David were married on August 20, 1960, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Duncan, Iowa. To this union, four children were born: Bob, Mary, Mark, and Teresa. The couple lived in Ute, Iowa before moving to Stuart in 1961.
Rosie was a lifelong teacher, beginning in 1959, student teaching at a Cedar Rapids school. She taught one year at Ute then moved to Stuart and began her decades- long career, first teaching elementary at Stuart Community School for a few years, then 5th-8th grades at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Stuart and back to elementary grades 2 and 4 in the Stuart-Menlo and West Central Valley School District, retiring in 1999. She was a longtime member of All Saints Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Altar and Rosary, and the Red Hats. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, gardening, sewing, quilting for the family babies, singing in various choirs, and playing shuffleboard. Rosie and Dave enjoyed traveling together, visiting 47 states and spending 18 winters at Monte Vista Resort in Mesa, AZ. They loved the time they spent together with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Tisl; three sisters, one brother; and their spouses.
She leaves behind her children: Bob (Christi) Tisl of Adel, Mary (Larry) Tisl-Endres of Stuart, Mark (Kari) Tisl of Stuart, and Teresa (Jason) Wheelock of Nevada; grandchildren: David Carl (Jennifer) and children: Cael, Andrew, Rowan and Leah; Daniel (Jessica) Carl and children: Cash, Cody and Makenzie Guyer; Amanda Carl and son, Caidan; Brent (Rachel) Tisl and children, Gabrielle, Liam and Noah; Kyle (Maghan) Tisl and children, Emberlynn and Dillon; Mitch Tisl (Brijet), Breanna Tisl, and Cooper Wheelock; sister, Theresa Doran; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ron (Donna) Tisl, Karen (Jerry) Dircks, Gary (Connie) Tisl, and Joanne (Gary) Kudrna; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
