Obituary for Ross David Guisinger

Ross Guisinger, 87, of Menlo passed away at his home on Friday, December 5, 2014. A Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, December 9th from Noon to 2 P.M. at the Menlo Community Building. The Menlo American Legion will conduct a 21-Gun Salute at Noon. Memorial contributions may be directed to Ross Guisinger Memorial Fund and sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Ross David Guisinger was born in a farm house between Redfield and Adel, on November 13, 1927, to Edwin Luther and Cora Edith (Belew) Guisinger. Since age 3 1/2, Ross was raised in the loving care of his Aunt and Uncle, Cynthia and August (Gus) Nilges near Montheith. At age 17, Ross joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during WWII. Twenty eight months of his enlistment were spent in Germany. He was discharged in July 1948.

On August 29, 1948, Ross was united in marriage to Gladys Pearline McClure. To this union, seven children were born: Larry Lee, Daniel Dean, Gary Glen, Ricky Ron, David Duane, Linda Lou, and Kimberly Kay.

Ross worked hard to support his family and he was a bit of a "Jack of all Trades"...from working on the railroad to welding to managing the I-80 DX Gas Station to doing backhoe work. In 1968, Ross and Gladys moved their family to Menlo and he started his own "Guisinger Service and Fabrication". He was known for his quality workmanship. Before his retirement in 1991, Ross also dabbled in raising a small herd of cattle, which he enjoyed a great deal. Family was a precious gift to Ross. He felt truly blessed and often bragged that all his children lived within 16 miles of "home".

Ross was predeceased in death by his parents; Aunt Cynthia; Uncle Gus; his brother, John, and two of his sons, Larry and Dan.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gladys; his brother, Robert (of Calif); his children: (Shirley); (Donette); Gary (Rita); Rick (Sally); Dave (Mary Anne); Linda (Bud) Sudbrock; and Kim (Marvin) Christensen; 12 Grandchildren: Julie Guisinger, Erica (Chris) Sciarrotta, Ryan (Jenny) Guisinger, William Sudbrock, Jason (Sandy Wren) Guisinger, Bets (Andrew Burg) Lange, Robert (Jennie) Sudbrock, Kevin (Katie) Guisinger, Kendra (Dennis) Allers, Kory (Ashley Weeks) Guisinger, Nichole Christensen, and Rachael Christensen; And 14 great grandchildren: Payton, Ty, Christopher (CJ), Tyler, Riley, Kaylee, Brooks, Sophia, Talon, Kyle, Kaden, Trevone, Madi, Shae, & Caden; As well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
