Obituary for Russell A. Jones
Russell A. Jones, 73, of Stuart passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Friday, March 5th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Stuart. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, March 6th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Stuart. Burial with military honors will be at Morrisburg Cemetery. Russell was born on May 2, 1947 to Walter and Marcella (Marsh) Jones in Mapleton, Iowa. He grew up in the Mapleton and Smithland area before moving to Greenfield. He attended Greenfield High School where he played football and wrestled. Russell graduated from Greenfield High School with the Class of 1965. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1967.
On June 11, 1971 he was united in marriage to Susan Sample at the United Methodist Church in Van Meter. To this union three sons were born: Tyrone, Keaton and Brinlee. Russell worked several years at the Sealy Mattress Factory in Des Moines. Following his retirement, he continued to work as a para-educator at West Central Valley High School for five years. He was a member of the Redfield and Stuart American Legions and the Iowa and National Trappers Associations. In his spare time, he loved fishing, hunting, trapping and watching farmers work in the field. He enjoyed his Tuesday Card Club and volunteering with the American Legion. He also treasured time he was able to spend with his beloved dog, Breeze.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda McKeone; brother, Roger Jones; nephew, Scott Nielsen; and nephew, Joel Peasley.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Susan of Stuart; son, Tyrone (Anna) of Eldon, MO and their children: Kaitlyn, Natalie and Haley; son, Keaton of Dexter and his children: Baylee and Dawson; son, Brinlee (Stacie) of Jefferson; sister, Patty (Lyle) Peasley; brother, Bruce (Judy) Jones; sister, Rhonda Swaim; sister-in-law, Charlotte Arnold; brother-in-law, Bill Sample; brother-in-law, Dick (Judy) Sample; sister-in-law, Mary Alice (Paul) Nielsen; nieces and nephews: Jincey, Gabriel, Nick, Damian, Jonathan, Sidney, Angie, Andrea, David, Marcie, Shon, Ginger, Jodi, Darren, Jaye, Leslea, Lisa, Jeanne, Terri, C.R., and Dena; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
