Rusty was born on December 2, 1959 to Charles and Joan (Clouse) Carey in Madison County, Iowa. He grew up in Earlham and attended Earlham Schools. While he was in school he was very active in 4-H. He began his career as a truck driver at the age of 18 years old; a job he treasured for over 40 years. He worked the last ten years for Parkison Trucking in Earlham. On February 1, 2002 Rusty was married to Marcia Lenze and the couple made their home in Earlham. Rusty was a life-long member of the Worthington Community Church.
In his spare time he loved to travel and be outside riding motorcycles or snowmobiles and mudding by the river in his trucks. He was known to burn food on the grill and accidentally poison plants in the back yard. Most of all he was a caring and thoughtful friend with a big sense of humor and treasured the time he spent around the kids of the family; even if that meant teaching them something ornery.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; son, Dustin; and father-in-law, Billy Lenze.
Rusty leaves behind his loving wife of 17 years, Marcia of Earlham; mother, Joan Carey of Winterset; step-children, Anne (Jason) Llewellyn of Des Moines and Anthony Morische of Nora Springs; granddaughter, Taylor Llewellyn; siblings: Jim (Donna) Carey, Marla (Dale) Luhrs and Denise (Mark) Wade; nieces and nephews: Jason (Jessica) Carey, James (Emilie) Carey, Dj (Stacy) Luhrs and Dani Luhrs (fiancé Mike Briggs); step-nephew, Marcus Wade IV; mother-in-law, Sue Lenze; several great nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
