Obituary for Ruth LeAnn Murphy
Ruth LeAnn Murphy, 71, of Stuart passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015 at her home surrounded by family. Memorial visitation will be held from 2-4 PM on Saturday, August 29th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ruth Murphy Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Ruth was born September 12, 1943 to John H. and Marie L. (Kannigeter) Kuper in Hardin County, Iowa. She attended country schools near Ackley and graduated from Ackley High School. Following graduation from high school she attended Ellsworth Community College, where she studied business. She later attended beauty school and became a licensed beautician. She continued her education, attending Southwestern Community College, graduating in June of 1992 and received her LPN cap. She worked at Nyla’s Beauty Shop for several years as well as nursing.
On July 9, 1988 she was united in marriage to Buddy Murphy at Fairview Church, south of Stuart. The couple made their home in Stuart. Ruth worked for the Stuart Community Care Center as a nurse for 31 ½ years before recently retiring. She was a member of the Stuart American Legion Auxiliary, the State of Iowa Nursing Association and the Iowa Beauticians Association. In her spare time Ruth enjoyed dancing, crocheting and gardening. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her grandchildren and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson: Nathan Frazer; brother-in-law, Larry DeWalt.
Ruth leaves behind her loving husband, Bud of Stuart; children: Dawn (Terry) Adams of Menlo, Tammy (Daryl) Nissen of Elk Horn, Jack Carson of Clarinda, Yvonne (Richard) Fortner of Arkansas, Charles Murphy of Arkansas, David Murphy of Arkansas, James Murphy of Oregon, Lisa Murphy (significate other-Stacy) of Arkansas; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; siblings: Mildred DeWalt of Iowa Falls, Kenneth (Annie) Kuper of Iowa Falls, Dorothy (Clifford) Leib of Guthrie Center and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that will miss her dearly.
