Sharon Pearl Estes, 77 of Diamondhead Lake, Dexter passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. Graveside memorial service will be held 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday, August 5th at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sharon Estes Memorial Fund and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Sharon was born on October 4, 1942 in Chariton, Iowa to William and Florence (Smith) Cook. She grew up in Chariton and graduated from Chariton High School. She was united in marriage to James “Red” David Estes Sr. on June 24, 1960. The couple was blessed with two sons Thomas and James Jr. The family made their home in Knoxville. They later moved in Moah, Utah while Red worked for Contel Telephone, then back to Knoxville for one year, then Rangely, CO when Red worked for B & M Service and lastly settling at Diamondhead Lake near Dexter. Sharon retired from Sodexo at Guideone Insurance in Des Moines.
Sharon loved Bingo and fishing. Most of all she loved spending time with her family at gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James “Red” Estes Sr.; siblings: Wilma Fortune, Mary King, William Cook Jr., Howard Cook, Dale Cook, Thelma Egbert and George Cook.
She leaves behind her sons, Thomas Estes (Vickie) of Dexter and James Estes Jr. (Virginia) of Madrid; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruby Walker of Indianola and Vera (Clarence) Walker of Urbandale; sisters-in-law Barb Cook of Sac City and Katherine Estes of Knoxville; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
