Sheila Faye O’Riley, 80 of Pleasant Hill, Iowa passed away on January 2nd, 2023 at the Mercy Care Hospice Center in Johnston. Memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, January 14th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Altoona. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Sheila was born on September 15, 1942 to Mr. and Mrs. L D Gilman near Anthon, Iowa. She attended elementary school there until her parents moved to Stuart, Iowa in the fall of 1954 where her father purchased the John Deere implement business. She was a cheerleader and homecoming queen in 1960 for Stuart High, graduating with the class of 1960. She later attended A.I.B. secretarial school before she met Jim. She worked for Herberger’s Department Store and was a receptionist for an eye doctor and dentist.
On August 7th, 1970 she married James O’Riley at the Stuart Methodist Church. The couple lived in several places throughout the West as Jim’s job requirements took him to various locations. They moved to Pleasant Hill, Iowa in 2005 upon Jim’s retirement. Sheila was a devoted mother who enjoyed being near her children. She enjoyed playing Bunco with her friends and was an avid Bridge player.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bruce; brother-in-law, Lonnie Bench; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Gilman; and nephew, Brad Gilman.
She is survived by her husband, James O’Riley of Pleasant Hill; children, Rhonda Lynn O’Riley of Des Moines and James Jeff O’Riley of Waukee; grandchild, Keegan O’Riley; brother, Steve Gilman and sister, Doris Bench both of Stuart; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Etta Murphy of Shenandoah, Iowa and sister-in-law, Betty Gilman. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
