Steve Kenneth Caulkins, 61 of Stuart passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. Private family graveside memorial service will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Steve Caulkins Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Steve was born on February 27, 1959 to Kenneth and Kay (Morrison) Caulkins in Greenfield, Iowa. He grew up in Stuart and attended Stuart-Menlo Schools. While in high school Steve was an exceptional athlete and played almost every sport he could. He graduated from Stuart-Menlo High School with the class of 1977. He later enrolled at Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, MO and Iowa State University. Steve enlisted in the United States Navy in 1982 and was able to travel around the world. He served honorably until his discharge in July, 1987. Steve made his home in Stuart.
Steve worked a variety of jobs lastly as a supervisor at Menards and security guard at Rose Acres. He enjoyed collecting antiques, finding arrowheads from around the country and watching old television programs. Most of all he treasured time he was able to spend with his family; where he was always known as “Uncle Steve”.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He leaves behind his parents, Kay and Kenneth Caulkins of Dexter; brother, Brian (Denese) Caulkins of Gladstone, MO, sister, Connie Marlow of Wichita, KS nephews, Curt Caulkins and Adam Caulkins; nieces: Jesse Caulkins, Candi Marlow and Katie Marlow; several great-nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
